Cleator Moor, or Little Ireland as it is affectionately known by local people, owes its roots to the Irish immigrants who came to the town looking for work during the infamous potato famine which blighted much of Ireland during 1845-1850. This site, designed by Sean Duffy, and edited by Tom Duffy is a culmination of many years of research and the collecting of material relevant to the history of this unique Cumbrian town. Tom has tried to give a comprehensive view of events which have had a bearing on the town, such as the Orange Order Riots, Mining Disasters and the impact of the Iron Ore Industry. |
